Good afternoon and happy Thursday pals! Hope you've been doing grand like the canyon!! I know, I know... it's been a hot minute but I'm back here again to not only share my awesome experience attending my first exclusive foodie event but most importantly, to talk food, of course—specifically Lolita's breakfast menu :-)
During my freshman year of college at the Academy, I remember requesting to go to Lolita's Taco Shop as soon as my homies picked me up from the airport after being deprived of authentic Mexican food for a solid 5 months in the Eastcoast--it was complete torture! My usual go-to since I was in high school would be their "2-in-1" burrito and/or the classic carne asada fries with a ton of their bomb salsa verde and a handful of fresh lime wedges. They never disappoint! I mean, you really can't go wrong with a place that is dedicated to serving up authentic Mexican food made fresh daily from scratch.
But I'll be frank, I never tried nor knew breakfast options even existed at Lolita's Taco Shop until I was invited via Instagram (which by the way, y'all don't know how beyond stoked I was when I saw their official account sliding in my DMs! Best DM I've received ever, hands down).
ROUND 1: The Classic Breakfast
Potato, Egg & Cheese Burrito - diced potatoes, cheddar cheese and egg in flour tortilla
Carne Asada Egg & Cheese Burrito - Choice Black Angus beef, cheddar cheese and eggs in flour tortilla
Breakfast Quesadilla - Choice of bacon, ham, or sausage with scrambled eggs and cheese in a flour tortilla
ROUND 2: A Little More Traditional
Chorizo Burrito - Beef chorizo scrambled with eggs in a flour tortilla
*Bean, Egg and Cheese Burrito - House-made refried pinto beans, cheddar cheese, and egg in a flour tortilla
**Machaca Burrito - Shredded beef marinated with bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes, scrambled with eggs with in a flour tortilla
ROUND 3: Only at Lolita's
Deluxe Breakfast Burrito - Bacon, ham, sausage, potatoes, egg, and cheddar cheese in a flour tortilla
***Jaime's Special Torta - Torta filled with scrambled eggs, ham, refried beans and cheddar cheese
My Top 3 Standouts - The Bean, Egg & Cheese Burrito mainly because their house-made refried pinto beans are just fantastic. The shredded beef in their Machaca Burrito was juicy and perfectly seasoned as well! The star of the show for me was definitely Jaime's Special Torta. This was the last item served and despite the fact I had hit a food wall during round 2, I couldn't stop eating this!!
I thoroughly enjoyed all of their breakfast menu items because honestly, I feel like you can't mess up using a combination of these delicious ingredients and stuffing it into a warm flour tortilla/torta. As simple as these dishes may be, the fact that Lolita's Taco Shop takes pride in using the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients, is what takes these dishes up a notch and truly sets them apart from your typical taco shop.
Overall, 'twas an amazing experience indeed! I got to meet the team members behind the family ran company, met Lolita's herself as well as fellow San Diego foodies, and tried out their delicious breakfast items. Hope you guys check out their breakfast menu the next time you visit Lolita's Taco Shop and dug this food review! Have a wonderful rest of the day :-)
